Prevent

26 11 2010

Commissioned by the 5 regional councils of Tyne & Wear and in line with the governments Prevent agenda, Gibber have now completed the final part of two highly succesful school tours across the North East..

"In the name of..." is a hard hitting performance and follow on workshop for year 9 pupils. With a focus on preventing violent extremism the performance explores how extremist groups on all sides prey on young people and manipulate the truth to suit their own political aims.

"The performance was excellent and aimed perfectly at the year group – relevant and entertaining material. Excellent ‘control’ of pupils in workshop. Well done Gibber – fantastic energy packed day – we were lucky to get you!".

The follow on workshop provides a safe space for the young people to discuss and explore a very controversial, sensitive issue in an open, respectful way and encourages tollereance and understanding of the different groups in society.

"From a Muslim perspective, I think the story, the script is an excellent approach to dispelling a lot of the myths and misconceptions which are associated with Muslims post 9/11. It is a true reflection of what Muslims are experiencing."  Lalon Amin - South Shields

“But Why?” is a highly interactive, fun, workshop, for yoear 6 pupils that that uses humour, drama, games and discussion to challenge young people’s opinions around identity, discrimination and tolerance. Revolving around three credible 10 year old characters the workshop  explores myths, misconceptions, stereotyping and the assumptions we make about different groups in our communities.
